KKi in the Press

Everyone has been talking about the Steven Laptop Case, here is what some people have been saying…

"Crocheted, cotton-lined protective sleeves ($50) are two good. First, they provide employment in Uganda; second, the deep red knit reminds us of fall (too soon?)."
Daily Candy

"Let’s face it. Our gadget lust is largely a selfish urge. But what if we could buy a product that would not only sate our gadget appetite, but also help someone at the other end of the supply chain? The Steven laptop sleeve from Krochet Kids intl (KKi) is one such product."
The Gadgeteer

"Our years-old laptop isn’t making anyone jealous, but if we secure it in the Steven laptop case we’ll be sure to turn some heads."

Yarn Chameleon

Sean found this little dude crawling around in some trees on the compound. The ladies hate it and are convinced that chameleons are extremely poisonous. We temporarily placed the chameleon on some of our yellow betty yarn to see the stripes change colors on his back.

GIVE Event.

We're pretty stoked about this huge summer event we’re planning for July 24th at Irvine Spectrum. Live music and live art alongside good company and sunny summer weather... what more could you ask for? Professional Surfer and Musician Timmy Curran will be headlining the event along side musical acts PawnShop Kings, Fitz and the Tantrums, Tamarama, the Branches, Eddie Wall, Wes Rogers, and DJ Episode.

Throughout the day we will be customizing hats and artists will be custom painting TOMS Shoes. Wahoo's will be providing free food and the eVocal art crew will be creating a mural live all day.

Meet pro-snowboarder and musician Eddie Wall.

"My name is Eddie Wall. I was born in Pennsylvania. I now live between Mammoth, CA and San Clemente, CA. I've been pro snowboarding for 10 years. I love skating, surfing, art, and playing my guitar. That's about it!"

What's your favorite part about collaborative events like this?
"I think any event that brings people together for music, arts, and charity is positive. People just have a good vibe in those environments. Everyone is there sharing the same goal. To be creative, have fun, help others, and listen to music. I am stoked to hear the other musicians for sure, but overall I am just looking forward to the entire event."

A Morning Favor

A few weeks ago David and his wife joined the KKi Northern Uganda team. We are excited to showcase his experiences and photographs in a weekly series every thursday. Through these photos we invite you into the compound and to get a better look at the daily lives of the ladies, operations, mentors, and directors.

Every morning the Krochet Kids Ladies gather for a time of singing, praise, and prayer. On this particular morning the sun was shining down as they clapped, danced, and sang at the top of their lungs. Their voices and prayers can be heard all over the KKNU compound. You couldn't ask for a more humbling and inspiring way to start the work day.

Twitpic Tuesday

Here's a peak into our past week (clockwise from upper left) :

- We are happy to announce that ‘June Gloom’ is finally over! The California sun has arrived and the interns are taking advantage of it.
- And now there were 2. Kohl’s wolfpack is growing…
- The hands behind the hats we wear. At KKi Northern Uganda, our ladies gather for a weekly meeting.
- “Here's to the small ships,
the tall ships
, & all the ships at sea,
but the best ships
 are friendships
so here's to you & me…” Last week, Brad found a pretty rad ship at Generic Youth’s Burger Wednesday.
